Recipe Questions & Answers

What pasta works best for this dish?

Penne pasta is ideal as it holds the creamy tomato sauce well, but rigatoni or fusilli can also be used for great texture and flavor absorption.

Can I substitute the Italian sausage?

Yes, chicken or turkey sausage can be used for a leaner option without sacrificing the savory flavor of the dish.

How can I make the sauce lighter?

Replacing heavy cream with half-and-half reduces richness while maintaining a creamy consistency in the tomato sauce.

What herbs enhance the tomato sauce?

Dried basil, oregano, or a mixed Italian herb blend add aromatic flavors that complement the sausage and creamy tomato base perfectly.

Can I add vegetables for extra nutrition?

Yes, adding baby spinach or sun-dried tomatoes during simmering enriches both flavor and nutritional content.
