A daring blend of caramelized onions, espresso, and milk creates a unique beverage for adventurous tastes.
# What You'll Need:
→ Onion Base
01 - 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
02 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
03 - 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
04 - Pinch of salt
→ Latte Components
05 - 2 shots (2 fluid ounces) freshly brewed espresso
06 - 1 1/4 cups whole milk or oat milk
07 - 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
# How to make it:
01 - Melt the unsalted butter in a small skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced yellow onion, granulated sugar, and salt. Slowly cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are richly caramelized and golden, about 12 to 15 minutes.
02 - Transfer the caramelized onions and any leftover juices to a blender. Add 2 tablespoons of milk and blend until uniformly smooth. Pass the purée through a fine-mesh sieve to achieve a silky consistency.
03 - Brew 2 shots of espresso and divide equally between two serving cups. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the strained onion purée into each cup, mixing until well incorporated.
04 - Heat the remaining milk until steaming. Using a milk frother or whisk, froth the milk until creamy and foamy.
05 - Pour frothed milk over the espresso and onion mixture in each cup. Optionally, stir in honey or maple syrup for additional sweetness. Serve immediately, garnished with ground black pepper or fresh chives if desired.
